We Are Herriman: Jim Konesky

Jim Konesky

July 2022

Jim Konesky runs four miles every morning before work. If you travel along 6400 West or Butterfield Park Way, you might be among the masses who he waves, smiles and says “good morning” to along his path.  In a community Facebook group, hundreds shared positive comments and stories about Jim, or as they refer to him, the “Happy Guy.” His wife, Kristee, came across the post and added, “He feels if he can put a smile on someone’s face or brighten someone’s day – even if it’s only ONE person every day – that’s what brings him the greatest joy. Jim is such a genuine and kind-hearted person, so it makes me happy as well to see the positive impact he has on those crossing his path each morning.” Others said “he gives a lot of joy with just a small, simple gesture”...“He’s the best part of our morning”...“he’s changing the world one wave at a time.”

Jim was recognized for his kindness in the June 8th City Council meeting, where he stated, “I go by a song, ‘Have you done any good in the world today? Have I helped anyone in need? Have I cheered up the sad, have I made someone feel glad? If not, I have failed indeed.’ It is my motto...I enjoy the people waving back at me; it makes my day as well.”
