We Are Herriman - Roberta Crane

July 2019 Roberta June Crane was born on June 3, 1916 in Herriman, in the very home she now shares with her sister, Evelyn, and where she celebrated her 103rd birthday! Roberta grew up in the transition period from horse and buggies to the Model T. She has always been amazed at the wonders of technology that allow her to flip a switch and fill a room with light. She remembers clearly the days of filling the stove with wood, and then coal, to make the heat last, as well as the very cold walk to the outhouse. Roberta has never forgotten to be grateful for the luxury of indoor plumbing! From telephones to air travel, she has enjoyed and embraced all of these modern wonders, with the exception of driving a car! Roberta received musical training from the Tabernacle organists when organs were changing from foot pumping to electric. She taught piano lessons to generations of students in Herriman, Lark, Copperton, and Riverton. She shared her musical talent with many others by playing the piano for roadshows, school productions, ward choirs, singing groups, town celebrations, family parties, and funerals. Roberta learned to garden in order to put food on the table, and she has shared the fruits of her labor and her green thumb with all that she could over the years; her beautiful rose garden has always been her pride and joy! Roberta loves Herriman and its people. She marvels at the growth that has come and continues to appreciate life, the kindness other show to her, and enjoys each new person she meets.
