General Meeting

Surplus property ordinance

The Council approved an ordinance that updates processes and clarifies distinctions between different types of public property, including how to sell/surplus property and assets as appropriate.

Work Meeting

Animal shelter

The City has worked with South Jordan for animal shelter space ever since Herriman City launched its own Animal Services Department. That lease is now up and South Jordan is unable to continue accommodating Herriman's needs due to growing space needs. The Police Department proposed a lease contract for a location on the south end of the city in the Rockwell Landing business area. The Council also briefly discussed how to plan long-term for a permanent facility.

Fee waiver policy

The City is frequently asked for fee waivers by organizations and individuals for a variety of reasons. The Council agreed the City should charge fees to cover costs of operation—but not make a profit—and not allow waivers. The Council discussed potentially adding different categories of discounts for city partners or other use types, but will be revisited at a future date.

Fleet vehicle purchasing

The Operations Director presented an overview of the fleet purchasing situation. Herriman City, like many other agencies, has experienced difficulty in vehicle orders and deliveries. The Council previously asked to reach out to other manufacturing brands to see if options are better. Other manufacturers are experiencing similar difficulty and some dealerships are slow to offer contract bids.

Utah Warriors Collegiate Rugby Shield partnership

The City has previously partnered with the Utah Warriors for the Collegiate Rugby Shield event and the Council is supportive of continuing the partnership this year for $25,000. The City would be a sponsor of the event and the Council considers sponsorship an investment into tourism efforts to Herriman.

Legislative update

The Council discussed several pieces of state legislation in progress at the legislative session. A full update will become available at herriman.org/government-affairs.
