SLCo Cool Zone Program

Cool Zone

Escape the heat at a Salt Lake County Cool Zone

Salt Lake County (SLCo) Aging & Adult Services, in partnership with SLCo Library Services and SLCo Recreation Centers will operate the Cool Zone program through October 15,2022.

Cool Zones are areas in public facilities where members of the public can escape the summer heat, hydrate, and learn about county programs. Air-conditioned locations where seniors and persons with disabilities can beat the heat not only reduces their individual energy costs, but protects their health as well.  Cool Zones are also great places to meet new people!

Salt Lake County has a variety of programming and activities available to people of all ages. County Recreation Centers may require fees to participate in services and programs. For more information Salt Lake County Recreation | Salt Lake County Senior Centers | Salt Lake County Libraries

Aging and Adult Services advises all people, especially older adults, to exercise caution in excessive heat by following these tips:

  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water & liquids, avoiding alcohol and caffeine
  • Wear appropriate clothing – light colored & light weight fabrics work best
  • Stay indoors during midday when outside temperatures are hottest, usually between noon and 3pm
  • Take it easy, avoiding exercise and strenuous activity when it's hottest outside
  • Know the warning signs of heat-related illness, which include dizziness, nausea, rapid heart rate, chest pain, and difficulty breathing
  • Seek a Cool Zone – visit a county facility to escape the heat
