JL Sorenson Recreation Center

5350 W. Main Street
Herriman, UT 84096

The JL Recreation Center will be a complete fitness & recreation facility operated by Salt Lake County Parks & Recreation. Projected to open March 2011, this 107,000 sq. ft. facility will include a wide variety of amenities and programming to serve the southwest area residents of Salt Lake County.

Funding

In June of 2006, Mayor Peter Corroon, the Salt Lake County Council and Zoo, Arts and Parks Board appropriated funds to create a recreation center in the rapidly growing southwest portion of the valley. The Sorenson Legacy Foundation and Rosecrest, a master-planned community in Herriman developed by The Sorenson Group, donated an additional $5 million, the Jordan School District donated $1 million towards the project to allow the swimming pool to be a competition pool, and Herriman City donated 15 acres for the recreation center and new county library to be built upon.

The recreation center will cost $20.5 million to construct, was designed by Edwards Daniels Architects of Salt Lake City, and will be built by Layton Construction of Sandy, Utah.
