HERRIMAN CITY MUNICIPAL WATER DEPARTMENT
Summer is here and thoughts are turning to picnics, vacations and cross-connection control for sprinklers. This notice is to inform or remind those residents that have a lawn irrigation system that a backflow assembly is required by the State Health Department. These assemblies must be tested by a certified backflow technician annually. If it is a newly installed assembly it must be tested within 10 days of initial use. A copy of the test results must be submitted to the City office. The City's cross-connection program helps to ensure the safety of our water system for all Herriman residents by eliminating the risk of potential contamination. A cross-connection is a connection between the public water system and any other connection. The connection between a lawn irrigation system and the City's main water supply is considered to be one of these connections. The installation of an approved backflow prevention assembly on lawn irriation systems can prevent possible contamination of the City's water system with contaminants such as lawn fertilizers, chemicals, pesticides, and animal waste. Another common cross-connection is through hose bibs and yard hydrants especially when used for watering troughs. A hose bib vacuum breaker can be installed to help prevent a cross-connection. These devices can be purchased at most home improvement or plumbing supply stores. Backflow prevention is very important. With your help we can ensure the safety of our drinking water. Please submit a copy of your backflow preventer annual test to the City office. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact Justun at 801-446-5323.
Blackridge ReservoirBlackridge Reservoir will be located between Rosecrest Plat P and Plat R. This is a secondary irrigation pond that will be shared with Riverton and Herriman. The reservoir is supplied by a 30" transmission line from a booster pump station from the Welby-Jacob canal. The 9 acre reservoir will hold 62 acre-feet of water. Blackridge Reservoir construction is on going. The contractors are working on the second layer of clay in the bottom of the pond as well as putting rock in for the riff raff. They will be adding water to the pond shortly for testing purposes. The system should be online Spring 2009. Sprinkler System ProtectionIrrigation systems make watering lawns and gardens easier and save your time. But, they require special equipment to prevent contaminated water from siphoning back (BACKFLOW) into home plumbing and City water systems. Irrigation systems not protected by approved back-flow prevention assemblies endanger the health of a household, neighborhoods, and the whole community. All Irrigation systems - new or existing - must be equipped with a State Health Department approved backflow prevention assembly. Only properly installed, State approved backflow prevention assemblies meet the current Plumbing Code and provide protection for the health of your family and neighbors. These assemblies require yearly testing to insure they are working properly, We at Herriman City can give you a free list of State certified testers. BluestakesCall before you dig. We read meters at the beginning of each month for the previous month's usage. Bills are mailed as close to the 20th as possible. We are in the process of upgrading older meters to a radio read meter. Over the next few years as we transition, those customers who have older style meters will be billed for a minimum monthly usage during the winter months. This is due to the difficulty in manually reading meters in the winter. The spring read will correct the minimum bill to reflect actual usage. Those customers who have the newer style meter (you can tell by the disc shaped radio antenna on the lid of the meter box) will be billed for actual monthly usage all year. Payments are due on the 10th of every month. If a bill is over 60 days past due, we will send out a past due / delinquent notice. Payment must be made by the date listed on the notice to avoid disconnection. Should water service be disconnected, the entire unpaid balance must be paid in full along with a $75 reconnect fee prior to restoring service.
