If you are building a new home (single family dwelling), you are required to submit for and obtain a building permit and inspections.
* Be sure to notify us if you are acting as an Owner/Builder *
Requirements for Submitting a Permit Application for a Single Family Dwelling
- Permit Application Form
- Two (2) copies of each of the following:
a. Construction Drawings
b. Site or plot plans on 8 1/2"x11" paper - show all notations, including drainage plan, slope, all easements, etc. (see sample Site Plan)
c. 2006 REScheck (formerly MECcheck); access website at www.energycodes.gov
d. Structural engineering
e. Gas line schematic/diagram, commonly drawn on foundation plan (see sample Schematic)
f. Drainage plan (commonly drawn on site plan) (see sample Site Plan)
- In addition to the above information, most developments require a signed site plan or an approval letter from the developer or Architectural Review Committee approving the construction. Plan review will not begin unless this information is included with the submittal. Contact the Herriman City Planning Department at (801) 446-5323 or at planning@herriman.org to determine which subdivisions require this additional review.
- If you are building as an Owner/Builder and acting as your own General Contractor, there are additional requirements and items you will need to submit (see Owner/Builder Requirements).

- ** NEW REQUIREMENT (beginning 5/1/08)**
A copy of your application to Questar must be submitted to the Building Department office prior to requesting a rough 4-way inspection. This can be faxed to (801) 838-9073, or emailed to building@herriman.org, or brought into the office or mailed. Be sure to clearly identify the project with the permit number and the address or subdivision and lot number. Also, if you have any deferred submittal items (trusses, gas line, engineered fixes, etc.), they need to be provided to the Building Department office prior to requesting a rough 4-way inspection.

PERMIT FEES are based on use of area and square footage, but are not charged until all plan reviews are completed and approved (see Fee Calculation Form). Your building permit fees will not include sewer fees. Contact South Valley Sewer District at (801) 571-1166.
Submit application and plans to the Building Department at the City Office Building at 13011 South Pioneer Street during our office hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Remember, the office is closed on State and Federal holidays.
Plan review will take approximately 15 working days, after which we may call with corrections that will need to be made to your plans. After the plans have been approved, we will call with the amount of the permit. Checks should be made payable to Herriman City. Credit card payments are not accepted for Single Family Dwelling permits.
Call the Building Deparment at (801) 446-5327 at least one business day before you wish to schedule inspections (see Required Inspections).
After the house has passed all inspections and a Certificare of Occupancy has been issued, the permanent water meter will be set within 2-3 working days if a water application has been submitted to the Water Department. If no application has been made, the Water Department will remove the jumper and shut off the water within 2-3 working days (see New Water Meter Set).
