City Road Projects

11800 South Road Changes

Residents of Herriman that drive along 11800 South at about 5600 West have noticed the new road (Daybreak Blvd.) that has been constructed by Daybreak in South Jordan. Daybreak Blvd. is planned to connect 11800 South directly to 11400 South. This will give residents direct access to the 11400 South intersection at the Bangerter Highway and in the future 11400 South will connect directly to I-15. This connection is also planned to reduce the volume of traffic on 11800 South between 4000 West and 5600 West. 11800 South will no longer be a truck route in this area.

The design approved by South Jordan for this intersection includes removing a portion of 11800 South. The proposed design will require West bound traffic on 11800 South to come to a T-intersection with Daybreak Blvd. The connection is planned to be completed by the first of December 2008. While the connection of Daybreak Blvd. of 11800 South is part of the long range transportation plan, the T-intersection is temporary until the Mountain View Freeway is constructed. The City of Herriman is currently reviewing the effects of this design and will be working with South Jordan City with recommendation to alleviate the negative effects of this change.

Towne Center Main Street Detour

The City of Herriman has been working with the Jordan School District, Salt Lake County and the Towne Center Developers to develop an amenity filled City Center that will include an elementary school, County Library and a state of the art County Recreation Center. As this area develops it will include other civic and government buildings including a new city hall, as well as office, commercial, retail and residential developments.

This project includes the construction of a new Main Street and the abandonment of the existing Main Street. The new Main Street is currently under construction and is projected to be opened in the Summer of 2009. The elementary school, library and recreation center are all planned and design to use portions of the existing Main Street for their projects. In order to meet construction schedules to meet planned opening deadlines the City has agreed to the closure of a portion of Main Street on February 1st. The developers have agreed to construct a temporary by-pass road until the new Main Street is completed. All traffic traveling on Main Street after February 1st will be required to drive on the temporary bypass road.

Electric Utility Work

• Wasatch Electric is underway with two projects to improve electric power facilities in Herriman. If you have construction concerns or helpful information, you may contact the contractor directly at (801) 487-4511.
• Working on the overhead lines along the east side of 6400 West, from 13400 South to approximately 13900 South. This will include the replacement of power poles.
• The placement of underground lines along the north side of 14200 South. This work will actually start at the intersection of Mirabella and Emmeline, then south on Emmeline to 14200 South, then west along 14200 South to 6400 West. The plan calls for this line to be placed in the parkstrip and the path to be bored if the rocks allow it.
  

Herriman City Main Street Reconstruction

• Construction activity through Winter 2008-09 will be limited to the relocation of underground utilites away from storm drain laterals. Surface concrete and asphalt work to begin with warmer spring temperatures.

Herriman Parkway - 4570 W to 5050 W

• Sewer and utility work to continue through the winter months. Construction of curb & gutter and additional asphalt surfacing will begin in Spring 2009.

City Water Projects

• Zone 4 - 3 Million Gallon Water Tank

• Construction on the 3 million gallon tank began in July. The tank location has been cleared by Barton Excavation. Drilling has begun for site blasting. Phase 2 of site blasting will include valve vault and pipeway.

Development Projects

• Herriman High School

• Construction is continuing on the waterline installation along 6000 West near 11800 South. Once completed to that point, the Contractor will move South near Heritage Place subdivision where the waterline will cross 6000 West to tie into the existing water system. This process will require 6000 West to be closed from August 11 - 15. 6000 West will reopen Friday, August 15th for the weekend. Paving will be done on Monday, August 18th. It will be closed from 11800 S. to 12800 S. In two weeks, there will be a sewer tie in on 11800 South.
• Herriman Elementary School #3

• Construction of the building pad footings and foundation is currently under way. The naming of the elementary school will occur about halfway through the construction period.

• Copper Creek Park - Storm Drain Project

  • Designed to capture storm water and discharge it in an expanded pond. The project includes the construction of a parking lot, sidewalks and curb and gutter, water service and sanitary sewer later construction to provide service to the future park restrooms. Also, landscaping, an irrigation system of the pond and a soccer field.
• Midas Creek Bridge over 6000 West

  • The 6000 West Midas Creek is a box-culvert structure that appears to have been constructed about 1930's-1940's. Is is a relatively narrow structure that has not been significantly modified since its construction. The interior walls show evidence of spalling and deterioration, the utility line construction appears to have compromised roadway stability along the west edge of the road. This structure has become more important as growth and development occurred in Herriman. The City will need to either widen and rehabilitate the bridge or simply replace it. This project is in the evaluation phase.
