We Are Herriman: Wendy Hill

Wendy Hill

July 2020

Wendy Hill has been a stay-at-home mom with little kids for 21 years. When her youngest child went to first grade she found herself looking outside the home for service opportunities, one of which was Meals on Wheels (MOW). When COVID-19 hit and school was cancelled, MOW was in need of extra help with meal delivery. So in March, she filled in as a sub for the Riverton MOW route, and after her first lunch delivery, she was hooked! It was so rewarding to help these homebound seniors!

As Wendy took meals to Riverton residents, she couldn’t help but wonder if she could find a way to help seniors closer to home. Wendy contacted the volunteer coordinators for MOW to ask about getting a Herriman route together. Wendy was instrumental in starting the new Herriman MOW route implemented on June 1, 2020. She recruited six friends within a day! Many hands make light work, and it couldn’t happen without neighbors sharing delivery turns. They usually deliver about 12 meals to 10 locations, driving from one end of Herriman to the other.
Volunteers are getting to know Herriman senior citizens a little more each day at meal drop off. Wendy loves living in Herriman and feels MOW is a great way to serve in her community.
